If the switches are getting funky it might act like the key was in the switch held to the unlock position, opening her all up. This lifespan of switches is why BMW went away from regular microswitches in door latches to hall effect on the newer models.
I have an E53 that occassionally does this. Weasel, please elaborate on how to nail this one down. Mine also opens the rear hatch, then the light runs the battery down. Sometime the windows are all open completely and sometimes they are just cracked open a bit.
