Long Term Effects of Clear Protective Covering?

I'm considering putting this on. After reading an old thread about it:
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...nyone-has.html

Just wondering what people's feedback is on the long term effects of the clear protective covering.

1. Though doing a great job with protecting the paint of the car, wouldn't this make it look funny years (ie: 5+) down the road? The part that is protected still looks nice, while the other parts more faded? Doesn't paint discolor to some extent regardless of how well it is maintained with washing, waxing and all the goodies?

2. And how does the the protective covering look when it is washed and waxed? Will it still produce good shine or does it look different from the rest of the car?

Thanks!

I have the 3M stuff on my hood, bumper, side mirrors, door handles (where the wife scratches the clear coat with her rings) and a bunch of other places on a 3 yr old Infiniti. So far so good, if you drive in a lot of city traffic with crap from the road being thrown all over the place it's a no brainer. The plastic faux chrome grill on this car tells the whole story, it is almost as pitted as the moon but my bumper and hood (especially the leading edge) are free of any damage.

I haven't tried to take any off but I don't have a reason to. I've wondered if I'll peel it off when the time comes to sell the car but at this piont I wouldn't. There's no discoloration and I'm careful to stay away from the edge while waxing otherwise you have to clean up the thin white wax line with a toothpick. This was the best $500 I ever spent which was the dealer installed price, I could have done it for about $300 if I had gone to the place myself.

I'm sold and like I said, if you drive in city traffic look at the front of your current ride and ask if you want your new ride to look like that.

I agree it's a no-brainer. I've had it 2 times on my '01 X5--once for 5 years until a lady hit me and now I'm on 3 years since that. Looks great. I recommend having an installer do it.
