another transfer case bites the dust

Just got off the phone with my indy mechanic and he's shopping around for a new transfer case. Anyone have some suggestions that won't cost me 5 grand? This is certainly not what i'd expect on a quality vehicle that's not even at 100K miles. this thing stranded my wife and 1 yr old daughter on an overpass. stock wheels.

If it is an E70, then it will be under 3 years old and coverd by warrenty, or it would in the UK and the rest of Europe. Is the US different?
