If none on the ipod, the OEM screen will remain blank while the song is played.

Give me a day or 2 to find the link as i am on my way at the moment. I think there are as variety of vendors selg the simple cable connection. It is what I opted for.
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. Please take your time as I'm in no rush.

Regarding my other question, I found out that I DO need the BMWVIM if I want the factory DVD changer to play because there is supposedly no video out? At least, that's what the store told me, so I purchased that. They were also saying that the BMW56 CAN only has video inputs and I need to purchase an FM modulator for audio inputs. Was this something that you also needed with this cable connection for the IPOD? I'm starting to get confused. I already have the OEM ipod adaptor and I wish there was a way to integrate that...

For the e70, we have the smartTV - this will take care of your video in motion needs:

mods4cars - smartTV Control for X5 (e70)
eas - 714.369.8524 | mods4cars - smartTV Control for X5 (e70)

Here's a video of installation in a MY09 M3:

For Video inputs, we also have VSM kits - we've been integrating video into the BMW platforms since 2005:

eas - Video Source Module (VSM) - e70 X5, including X5M (MY08-MY10)
eas - 714.369.8524 | eas - Video Source Module (VSM) - e70 X5, including X5M (MY08-MY10)

Let me know if you have any questions or since you're local - feel free to drop by.

Hey Tom G, just to clarify for the my 2008 X5 I would have to go with your "eas-Video Source Module (VSM) - e70 X5, including X5M (MY08-MY10)" option to get video in motion, correct? or can I go with your smartTv control option which seems a bit cheaper.
Thanks,

Thanks,
2008 is still CCC-based iDrive, it does not have DVD playback capabilities as the newer models do. You will need the VSM instead.

CiC iDrive started appearing in 2009 in the 3 & 1-series models, introducing the "infotainment" features which includes DVD movie playback as well as media from USB flash drives.

Thanks but I think its a small technicallity, but right now I can play back a DVD and view it on the Idrive screen but only while the vehicle is in PARKED. As soon as I go into DRIVE the picture goes away.

I would assume your iDrive screen is similar to this?

If so, this is CCC (iDrive 4), meaning only the SmartTV module is needed.

Whay yr is ur vehicle? Mine is aa '08. I used the audio jack in the center pedestal console for my audio needs. Also, the Rear Entertainment System has abuilt in FM modulator so I have 2 methods to obtain Audio.

Also, the OEM IPOD adaptor is for audio only, not video. Thats why In opted for the BMW56 can. Did u find the cable adapter yet, The one for aprox $40?

Thanks for your reply. My vehicle is also 2008. I don't have the rear entertainment system, but I do have everything else. The FM modulator if I needed one I was told is inexpensive.

For my ipod since it's 3rd gen, I was told I have to buy the authentic apple RCA composite cable because there is a chip in it that won't allow it to work if it's not authentic. I bought it from the apple website and it cost $50...

I could simply respond directly to your question with a yes but that would not be very helpful to you. If you truly want some advice on the subjects covered in this thread, you will have to be a bit more specific. What r u looking to do as there r over 8 pages of discussion in this thread. What options does ur vehicle have? Also, with some minimal research, it is easy to discover that the '07 and '08 are identical in terms of the systems (CPU) we r discussing in this thread.
