Obviously I meant automatic highbeams but thanks for confirming it is a new option for 2010.

What did people do 10 years ago when buying a car when there was no Build Your Own ? I guess old school through a paper brochure. I know BMW had BYO when I bought my e53 in Feb '01 but I don't think there were too many BYOs in the late 90's. Life was rough back then .

Back when Henry Ford gave us a choice of Black or Black we did not need a configurator...

I have auto high beams on my 535. I've never used it. Maybe this winter.

Oh and bmwusa.com still has 2009 BYO. And I'm reading the 2010 manual - I'm now on page 85/300.

According to the maual, looks like it is NOT a 1 piece rear lift gate.

2010 is definitely a 2 piece.
The 2011 (facelift) is rumoured to be 1 piece - conflicting information.

(All page references are related to the page of the document, not the page number)

I just finished reading the manual!

Pages 33-35 have the liftgate/tailgate instructions. Page 35 says there's a tailgate, which can support max load of 550 pounds.

But then on page 271, it shows the liftgate in the up position, and it looks like 1 piece.

I will go ahead and say it-- looks like we have Tailgate-gate. Get it ? You know like Spygate

The lower liftheight is appealing with a one piece rear hatch but having a place to tailgate would be missed...

I noticed that in the new idrive, they have removed the picture of the tail gate from the section where you set the opening lift height, and replaced it with a sort of angle wheel. It appears they are trying to make the software more general, so that it does not need updating if the rear hatch changes appearance in the future (hint hint).
