Just got mine back from the dealer on Wednesday evening and it was $1200 (actually $1195). Included OEM glass, new molding and special sealant. Does not have heads up display. Insurance allowed $900, but with a $500 deductible, only got a check for $400. Still about $100 more than the last time.

It's the new glass specs for German production I believe. Drove a 996tt Porsche 50K with no glass problems. Installed 2 new windshields in the 997tt in 8 months.

I put Safelite in at $327.00 rather than cough up the money for the BMW glass. I did this because I felt that the rocks are coming too frequently to keep replacing glass at $1200 - even though the insurance covered it. I felt that 2 or more windshields at that high price in a short period (I'd gotten five strikes within 6 months) would threaten my insurance.

With that said, I have never had so many cracks, chips, and stars as I have in the last few years. I think this is happening more frequently because cities and states are not spending the time and money needed to keep the roads as clean as they used to.

I am now getting my third windshield for my 07 X5. I live in an area where flying stone chips hitting the windshield are common. This car is the first one where it seems that they crack much more easily than previous cars I have owned. I normally get my windshields repaired at least once or twice per year, but with the X5 they just crack much more easily requiring replacement. I have a $100 deductible.

It was a Tuesday evening, last week, on the way home, Long Island Expressway westbound (commonly referred to as the LIE,) near the Cross Island Expressway, when SMACK! The noise/bang was so loud, I jumped in my own seat. What was it, I asked myself. I see no chips or breaks in front of me. I casually look into my rear view mirror, and WHAM...close to the top of the windshield, but just below and the to the right of rain sensor a shatter the size of a golf ball, and more rings surrounding it than Saturn has around its own planet.

Ok, I got corporate insurance on all my vehicles. DAMN...our policy has glass under the collision area of the policy, $1,000 deduct. Cost for new windshield, with HUD and Rain Sensor, with labor - $2,100.00.

Wow - That's high. Just got my windshield replaced in preparation for my lease turn in. HUD, rain sensor etc cost $1100 total. Got a BMW OEM replacement. Insurance covered it completely so no cost to me but still only half of your quote.
