another cracked windshield

Pick-up truck passed me over the weekend and kicked a piece of gravel up at the windshield- cracked from top to bottom. 2nd windshield I've replaced in 3 months. In 25 years of driving BMW's I've never had to replace (or even had a crack) a windshield before. Now twice in 3 months. Anyone else experiencing a greater frequency of windshield issues on the E70 than on other vehicles? At $1200 a pop it is kind of pricey- with my deductible, insurance only kicks in about $300 on it.

I think it's just dumb luck. I had a Jeep that I swear had a rock magnet in the windshield. I think I replaced it 4 times. I haven't had to change the windshield on any of my 3 X5s.

I did get hit with a rock a month or so ago in the E70. I saw it coming right towards my head. I have 3 little chips in the glass but it didn't break.

Similar story here. Have gone ten years without a windshield incident then two or three in the same year.... Maybe you will be good for another ten years now!

Agree on the luck, good or bad...our '01 X5 windshield is the orig., and we only
have a small scar and the usual tiny nicks of 8+ years. The '02 Vette shield
is in very good shape, but the CEO's '03 Honda pos CR-V is on its 3 windshield.
And, NC car ins. doesn't cover a lick, unless the car was in an accident.

I had a 2005 545 bought new. the windshield cracked top to bottom within a few months of owning it. I pushed the dealer as there were no visible chips along the crack and they had the regional okay a replacement at no cost.

I was concerned there was something off with the windshield frame because it looked like a stress crack and I feared it happening again. Luckily it never did.

I guess we can all share in your pain -I have two chips but fortunately no cracks. The guys who install the clear bra products (3M) are starting to fit this on the windshield (not tinted otherwise illegal). I'm considering doin this.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

It seems I always get a cracked windshield in my first couple of months of ownership for all my new cars and then I am good for several years after that. Still can't figure why, just my luck. When my E70 cracked I felt like crying ;-) LOL
