Looking at various X5 pictures, I believe these are the answers: 1) Yes 2) The I-drive controller is pushed forward, but there is a slot behind it 3) Yes 4) Don't know 5) I don't know

Let me see if I understand correctly.
Old iDrive runs on CCC (not hard drive based and not plug and play). New iDrive runs on CIC (hard drive based and plug and play). That sounds like the new controller can't be plug and play with older cars. What is the CCC/CIC anyways?
