Retrofitting the 2010 Navigation and I-drive?

I know the X5M's are out with the new navigation and I-drive and the 2010 X5's are due soon, but is anyone considering retrofitting them into their current cars?

I am interested, but have no idea where to start. I believe this M3 owner is working on it for his M but is currently unsuccessful in getting the navigation and sound to work.

Need help locating 09 m3 with.... - M3 Forum 2010 2009 BMW M3 2008 BMW M3 BMW E90 M3 E92

That's pretty cool that he was even able to get that far.

I am planning on upgrading my iDrive control unit to the new unit once they get some pricing info on it (and a part number would help as well.) I check the 3Series pricing...around $400.00. Not too bad, just wish the CCC unit was that inexpensive as well.

I'd like to know too. I had a 1 Series loaner with the new iDrive and it rocked.

Does anyone have any idea if something like this is even remotely possible? I see how far the guy in the video got, but clearly there are some things he can't (and may never be able to) get working.

I'm guessing this isn't just as simple as swapping out the CCC unit and iDrive controller, correct--meaning do you have to re-code the unit to the car, etc.? Can you also just leave the old iDrive controller and just swap the CCC?

I would say it is probably one of those things that is possible, but not practical.

It certainlty would cost some $ to do I would think.. as well as a recode that BMW may not be able (or willing) to do regardless...

Found this searching the forums last night.

You should have the latest SW updates installed if your E70 build is < 04/08. To make life easy have this done w/the current iDrive controller installed.

Most people installed the 65 82 9 213 309 CIC but it has been superseded by 65 82 9 125 348. CIC is plug and play. Part is ~$189 + shipping

You also need to purchase a new trim piece. Still researching the PN. Could probably use the X5M or 2010 X5 part.

Have not found out much about the display.

Anyone w/a 2010 and new CIC controller? Is your display low res or the newer high res?

I found all that, but what about the brain of the new iDrive (CCC)? I know its hard-drive based, so what happens to my DVD drive in my center dashboard?

Actually, the part # is 65 82 9 189 048
