Correct, from what the brochure says, "can add new maps via DVD or USB" same system so I think you should be fine with that, if not direct from CD.
Going of the new 2010 October spec X6 in the UK anyway, no doubt the same worldwide and on the X5. Here is the option in the brochure;

Theres a seperate USB socket (in the 3series they stuck it in the glovebox) ... not sure about the X5 ... but its used for uploading music from thumb drives to the hard drive. At the same time, it can be used to copy music from the hard drive to a stick ... should BMW need to replace your internal hard drive ... but still save you music !

I've got a 2010 X5 ordered w/Nav. I assume I'll be able to upload music/audiobooks to the hard drive via one of the USB ports. A couple of questions from those who've done this:
1) What file formats are acceptable, i.e. WMA, MP3, M4A? 2) What file organization is needed on the thumb drive, i.e. can you use folders to indicate playlists? 3) Do you need to use a specific USB port; is it in the glovebox on the new X5? Or can you use the optional port in the console? Thanks for tips. |

if you have nav, there is a usb port (for thumb drive, etc.) in the glove box. If you have ipod, then another usb port is in the console which works with your ipod. I don't think you can rip from this port - just the one in the glove box. Note: if you have an iPhone cradle in the console, you can use EITHER the usb port in the console for ipod/iphone music or (with the right snap-in adapter - there are many iphone adapters and some just charge and provide external antenna) have the music go to the stereo through the snap-in adapter. You cannot use both console ports for music at same time. (please see my separate post on this today).

After you've uploaded all the mp3's onto the hard drive, the manual states that the songs will be put into folders by album name. Can you create your own folders for the songs?
