Do you suppose that somewhere on the internet there's a cop forum where that CHP is bragging about bagging a Vette and a brand new Bimmer last night

Took the big grin off my face Luckily, I was just past the probation period between tickets to keep the last one off my record because of traffic school. I didn't even have 50 miles on my car yet! Needless to say, what's the best radar detector to get? We both need one. Btw, LOVE the car!

For radar V1 or Escort products work well. Even my aging Escort Passport 8500 works great for radar, but laser is a different story. Neither will protect much (if any) in that situation.

Valentine 1 or Passport 9500ix.

If all you are worried about is radar/laser, don't mind more false alarms, and like to have more data to interpret, go with the Valentine 1.

If you also want some warning of fixed-position speed and red light cameras, you need the Passport 9500ix, as the Valentine 1 is radar/laser only. The Passport 9500 ix also has better anti-falsing technology than the Valentine 1.

But, since you need two, why not get one of each?

I've got both, and each has their own strengths and weaknesses.

For pure radar detection, basically, if you want more raw data to mentally interpret the nature of the radar threats, the Valentine one is best. If you want a "turn-key" simplest device, which give less data and does more interpretation of validity on its own before passing along radar signal alerts, go with the Passport 9500ix.

Thanks for the input. Still can't believe it. Officer didn't have too much sympathy for me. I guess I can understand, with us having a brand new X5 and Corvette (haha)! I tried to talk him into just a warning. No go. Our "rural hwy." was Hwy. 70, coming from Chico to Hwy. 80, northern CA. There's a stretch near Feather River Casino exit where they're all waiting.

I was caught doing 75 in a 50 and on the ticket it claimed that it was not a gun at all, but a visual check. I showed my lawyer this and he said he will just lie in court and say he did both the gun & visual, but only marked down the visual. Point is, no detector would've saved me in this case from throwing money out the window ($450 lawyer to start and god knows what else to come).
