Diesel Fill Up Tips or Tricks?

A couple of thoughts from when I owned my Diesel Jetta and I live in NJ
1) I actually PREFER to pump my own fuel vs the pump jockey who hasnt slept and is searching for the filler hole through slits in his eyes, occassionally missing and hitting the car with the nozzle.
2) You can do your own pumping if you pull up to the TRUCK area instead of the car pumps. since they dont pump for trucks only cars (at least at the Hess station I usually bought from in Edison)
3) I bought a set of "special" gloves at a truck stop in PA that was the best $10 investment I made.. not only did they fit snug, but they came off easily, once you remember to use (in my case) the RIGHT glove for fueling and the LEFT glove for taking off the right glove. Drop them in a zip lock and no smell whatsoever.
4) GO SLOW ! Foaming is a problem with diesel that doesnt exist with gasoline and therefore it's easier to overfill (and spill) since the foam comes out if you go too fast.
5) Prepare for the eventual overflow in advance. Have a roll of paper towels (preferably blue shop towels in back and a spray bottle of soap and water for any that gets on the paint (or your hands). You can use a scented dishwashing liquid mixed with water for any that accidentally gets on you so you dont have the smell.
6) Lastly, and this is a few years old and may have changed with BMW engines, I always added a measured amount of diesel fuel additive at every fill up. I had four baby food jars each with the right amount, and a funnel, and would pour the additive in FIRST. 4 baby food jars = one bottle of the additive, and I didnt have to mess with figuring out am I above or below the line in the cold and wind. Again, these were kept in a zip lock bag. So my little "kit" made for an easy fill up, and had me prepared for any slip ups.

I sold it about 3 years ago, as I had nothing but problems with it..AMAZING problems too..I bought it as a CPO and sold it just as the CPO was running out at only 44K miles (water pump went bad, electronics went bad in doors, seats wouldnt heat then suddenly overheat, it was a nightmare..and candidly since it was an automatic, the mileage differential especially when it costs more than regular or premium gas wasnt worth it to me..)
