USB/IPOD Adapter

I am exploring the option to add the USB/IPOD adapter to my 2010 X5. It is equipped with navigation and no CD changer. Has anyone had this option installed at the dealer? Is the dealer installed option different than the factory installed option? Thanks in advance.

someone keep me honest here... but i believe the factory installed has the IPOD and USB connectors and can be controlled and viewed via the idrive screen. (view name of tracks, playlists, etc)

the dealer, aftermarket, setup only has an aux port for an MP3 or compabitle player like the IPOD... I don't think there is a USB port.
unless i'm wrong you do not see them listed on the idrive screen...

you would need to view, pause, and/or forward songs from the IPOD unit itself...

The dealer installed iPOD kit is the same as factory installed kit, it acts like a docking station. You will be able to control the iPOD from iDrive.
There are also some aftermarket kits that allow you to control your iPOD/iPhone from iDrive. Check this: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...ation-kit.html

No matter which kit you install, you'll need to get your car programmed for it.

Here are a few reasons I went for the factory installed unit: I think it's most economical; most visually appealing (no extra parts or wires); knowing the fact that someone didn't have to tear open my dash/center console to install anything is comforting; don't have to worry about making an install appt and being without my car.

But maybe you have already taken delivery?
