Active Seats
Is the active seat worth getting? I've got back problems as it is (not weight related before the haters start) and plan to use the car for road trips. Can you sense the seat being active? Does anyone with the feature think its helpful? Does anyone feel that the seat is less comfortable than it might be without the active feature (does the additional hardware in the seat make it generally less comfortable). I realize that this is all subjective but I appreciate everyone's opinion on this subject. I know it forces you to get ventilated seats but I'd like to exclude that part from the discussion. I'd also like to more or less exclude price. Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh, that wasn't intended but I'm having a bad day.

Some people like them, some people hate them. My wife tried them out, and said "what the F_ _ _? No way are you getting these seats."
So, I think you'll find it's personal preference. I also tried them out and they seemed more of a novelty than anything. If they included a back massaging component, I think they would have been on the right track. But, the way in which they operate, to me, at least, seems to be a gimmick and an expensive one at that. The ventilated seats on the other hand are very nice on hot days, to be sure. |

"If they included a back massaging component, I think they would have been on the right track. "
There is sufficient amplitude of motion in the active seat bottom to invoke neuoromuscular facilitation in the lower back of most users - so in a sense there is an indirect "back massaging" aspect to the feature. IMHO the ventilated seating justifies the price of this bundled option; the active aspect is icing on the cake. |

We have them. Would never order another car without it. It does make a huge difference on long road trips. Not usually aware they are on after the first few minutes. Wish the passenger side had one too- we switch off about every three hours of driving and I miss it when I'm on the right side. We do an annual trip to and from Houston & Nantucket; a Houston to Illinois run; Houston to Santa Fe and Aspen. (We have two golden retrievers so we tend to drive on vacations so we can take the dogs with us). Am thinking about heading toward the X6 next time around.
