Door lock programming on 2008 USA model
What I really would like is when I stop the car and remove the ignition "key", ALL doors unlock. I find it a real nuisance to walk up to the, say the back driver's door and go to put something in the back seat and find the damned door is locked, yet the drivers door is unlocked. Is this a programmable item for US of A consumers? Thanks, Dick |

Click your remote twice, it unlocks all the doors!!
It's the same on virtually all cars produced for the past 7 or 8 years. One click of the unlock button, unlocks the driver's door. Two sequential clicks and the rest of the doors are unlocked. |

Same to my 08 X5. I really hate that when I open driver door and trying to get my kid out from rear door while I leave my key in ignition. I have to go back to driver side again to unlcok all.
My previous 06 E350 would unlock all 4 doors as soon as i opened driver side door. Quote:

it's settable in iDrive:
1. Go to iDrive main menu 2. Press Controller to go to i menu 3. Select Settings 4. Select vehicle/tyres 5. select upper field and turn until you get door locks 6. select central locking 7. go down to Unlock button setting and change it to all locks

Sorry, I could have explained the scenario better.
I stop to run into the dry cleaner's, leaving my wife in the car listening to the radio, engine OFF. (KEY INSIDE DASH) I return minutes later and attempt to put shirts in passenger area. Door is locked and requires either I open the driver's door and push at unlock button, or rap on the glass to get wifey to notice and press the unlock button. This car has a computer for brains. It should understand human needs and unlock the door. As to the settings on Idrive, the car is already set to "All Doors" and this setting pertains to using the remote or pressing the unlock/lock button in the dash. I want the car to automatically unlock all doors when the driver's door us unlocked. Thanks to all who offered help, Dick |

It is for security... most people do not want all the doors to automatically unlock in dark parking garages at night, or when their wife is waiting alone in a parked car.

Why can't you just hit the central un/locking button before getting out of the car?
How lazy have we become that we can't hit a button.

The post above sums it up perfectly. This is a rather obvious feature, and a silly complaint.
It's not as if you're driving a Kia. You're driving a high profile BMW SAV, which attracts certain elements. I wouldn't leave my wife alone in a car with the doors unlocked at a bank, let a lone a dry cleaners. It's not the 1950s. We're in an era of car jackings and far worse. Keep your doors locked man. If this is an annoyance to the point that you have to post it here, might I recommend Yoga or spending some time reading Chicken Soup for the Soul. Heal brother, heal, be one with your inner self. Enjoy the birds, the trees. Go out for ice cream, take your wife on a cruise. Go back to Greece, where you two lovebirds first met. Reignite that passion, surprise her with a brand new Z4 in white, give 10% of your income to a needy family member each and every year, and by all means, maybe then you'll find it within yourself to push the key fob "twice." It's all about sweet love man, burn your credit cards, give away your cash, and hug a tree. Be one with your BMW and it will be one with you. We all love you and we're here for you. Together we'll get through this travesty, one step, one minute, one sweet breath, at a time. Namaste, Love, Peace. Last edited by ABMW; 02-05-2010 at 12:52 PM. |
