ABMW and I have gone a few rounds on leasing (still don't get his math) and BMW not having throttle brake stop technology. I really love the opinions out here but I too get fatigued with fact being represented without basis. Google is just too dang easy to use. Could ABMW be Al Gore in disguise? (I'm kidding) But I am happy my resale should be strong. |

As for you resale value of your 35d in five years time, I suspect much will depend the cost of fuel at that time and the price relativity of diesel and petrol. |

Once again, just getting back to what we will be buying and driving in five years time, I suggest more vehicles with turbocharged engines. Very soon, you won't be able to buy a X5 that's not turbocharged. The petrol heads around here should be thankful of all the tech that's filtering their way courtesy of the diesel revolution of the last decade...

Without a doubt. Ford is making a big move in that direction with their "Eco Boost."
I suspect Diesel would also be in the mix except for the false starts in the U.S. in the past -- I think a lot of companies are very leery of spending the money on diesel powertrains in the U.S. Perhaps once the SCR technology get's more real-life use and perhaps developed more, i.e., I doubt that Ford marketing people would find the two-tank BMW system acceptable for sale based on it's susceptibility to freezing in Northern Winters and requiring more frequent replenishment. |

I think there is a lot of room for improvement in engine eficiency using turbo and supercharging or even both.
Hybrids and alt fuel are undoubtedly on the way but not in the next 5 years. I don't need to know about secret area 51 technology etc to know that. It's plain economics, motor manufacturers need a few years out of a new model to make it pay. Too many new models coming out at the moment. Watch the industry, when new products start to slow and all you see are facelift cars, that will be the signal that petrol / diesel cars have had their day. |
