Very interesting.

I wonder if a wrap would be a cost-effect way to restore a badly scuffed matt-finish bumper, like on the X5, as compared to painting?

So you would see where the vinyl is cut off along the edges of all the panels?? And what about door handles etc?

I would think the vinyl scuffs easily just like the 3M. I scuffed mine while washing/drying it and now that mark always bothers me!

Darn you guys shouldn't be posting these pics, now I just might have to get it done! Can you picture a new X5M in matt black!!

The company that I posted the pics from have rolls big enough to wrap any piece entirely without having to use multiple pieces. It is very similar to the 3M wrap. They wrap every trim piece individually, and it is very difficult to come off or get damaged. And yes they wrap the moldings and running boards.

I had wrapped my Denali in silver, and after about a year, it had no scratches on it except the area where I hit the garage. In that case, you just take it in and get that piece re-wrapped.

BTW, isn't BMW officially providing matte black for the M3. I think it was 27 limited edition M3's?

Not any more. The 2011 M3 with competition package can be ordered with frozen gray.

I know about the frozen gray, but I had read (and posted) about frozen black being offered for the M3, and limited to 27 pieces.

I am sure they will let people order frozen black and frozen blueif not regular, then a special order. BMW is known to offer more towards end of a model. e.g. 6-series can also be ordered in frozen gray etc.

Interesting stuff. I've seen that it simply needs to be washed and that's it. Also read that if an accident occurs, just fix the dent as normal then get it wrapped again ... which means any old body shop wouldn't be doing the labor.

My concer at this point is SUN DAMAGE, and BUGS, etc. Will it fade quick in Florida weather? How are teh contaminants clened off, like bird droppings and bugs and other spills on the road?

It looks great in matte black, really sporty ... but not very luxurious looking. That flat silver / frozen grey is sick looking!!

For wraps you just have to wash them as it's just a bunch of huge vinyl decals basically. We have a wrapped Excursion for my company and it was way cheaper than a full paint job and peels off if you get tired of it.
