RECARO YOUNG SPORT SEATS...THREE ACROSS IN THE SECOND ROW...

As a new dad of a 10 month old, and taking a look at your set up in the back of your car with all 3 seats, one thought constantly goes through my mind on our own childhood...

how did we ever survive growing up without all of this stuff... lol

Yeah, we had a VW Golf sized car with 4 kids in the back, one in the front with Mom and Dad driving. Safety was such a foreign concept until the 80s.

Going to resurrect this. How are your kids liking these seats? If they fall asleep in them, does the heat tilt forward, or manage to stay in the seat. My current seat is BS, my toddler falls forward as soon as she falls asleep, and I feel like she will choke herself out one day. Wife has to sit back there and lift the head up once she starts falling asleep. Please advise. Thanks.

SlickGT1: Can't complain, at all. These seats should be the gold-standard for childrens seats. The seats have an adjustment to recline/tilt the seat...When the kids have 'bobbed off' to sleep, the lateral cushions catch their heads, comfortably so that they aren't choked or wake up with a sore-neck.

I know it's an old thread, but the LATCHes really need a workout before they become much easier to use. More specifically, the leather around it. I do my carseats a little more than I would like but now it's like a 30 second job to put one in and lock the seat belt through the hole in the back. On a loaner 3-series I couldn't LATCH at all despite trying to dig the leather up and push the carseat's latch buckle in the same way on the X5. Design issue on the LATCH anchors.

As for the seat-backs... BMW designers did a good thing here by not making that full leather. The hard plastic is very welcome - easy to clean and doesn't have scuffs from plain old kid shoes/sneakers. Any leather there would've been torn and ripped apart long ago. They like to kick while throwing tantrums too.

3rd row - glad I didn't get it... impossible to get to them while the carseats are in... and they have been for all 4 years now. This is no minivan.

Do you have Jo-Ann's fabric store in your area? This store sells crafts and knitting stuff (lots of nice old ladies there).

They have rolls of fabrics and all kinds of stuff, including clear plastic of various thickness and transparency. You ask for the dimensions, and they cut them for you. I bought a 6ft x 6ft piece (1/5mm thick) there for probably $15.

Then at home, you will need to spend a couple hours with scissors and scotch tape to shape the plastic around the seats, including holes for seatbelt harness, etc.

I have 3 Sunshine Kids Radian 65s (good to 65lbs) in the back of mine. Seats are very heavy, built solid, but the base is narrow. My oldest is now in a SK Monterrey booster, secured by the LATCH. Works well, believe it or not even fits better than in my wife's Mercedes R350.
