DEF
DEF flushed and filled as a "Courtesy". I was not told why the warranty did not cover it, but I did point out to the SA when I brought the car in that the car had an oil change warning come up way before it should have been due. The DEF was not added or flushed at this oil change. So the oil change and DEF flush/fill are out of sync. I'll probably have to deal with this at the next oil change and DEF flush/fill.

2011 35d
By the way, I came across a new 2011 Alpine white 35d with 214's on the I-105 on Saturday. It looked great. The chrome exhaust tips looked larger in diameter coming out of the white painted bumper area versus the black bumper on my 35d. Maybe they are larger.

Thanks dmfelger, I dont expect DEF refilling would be a major issue, in a worst case I'll buy and refill it myself - from what I've seen in the manual, it is relatively straight-forward DIY.
I am debating on 214s right now, they do make the car look much much better...

BigX5er - that interesting to hear your zero lag comment ... you may be one of few who have decided to ditch 35d and go 35i - but that trend may continue given those who didnt want the the V8 originally - so elected to go 35d for performance / gas tradeoff - the 35i may indeed prove very popular as it arguably gives better performance whilst not using that much more fuel over 35d ... we are getting the 40d in Australia soon which will be faster than outgoing 35d and incoming 35i (with 0-60 in around 6.4 secs) ...
I have 2010 35d and am also thinking of swapping it out either for 35i or 50i ...I don't really care too much about fuel use as we do less than 150 miles per week on average... chose the 35d for torque ..but combination of turbo / transmission lag is noticable for me (despite some people refusing to believe it has lag at all!) ... that half second delay here and there feels a bit scary when you want to nail it to get out of trouble etc .. and it just feels a bit 'doughy' unless you are willing to drive around everywhere in DS mode ..which can make it feel a bit jumpy ..no sweet spot really .. what other benefits are you noticing in moving from 35d ...e,g, some jounos are already saying it better than 35d as its a bit lighter in the front ... suspension tweaks in 2011 model make it a little more compliant ... transmission as smooth as butter ... also how does it sound? I'm over the diesel clatter at idle to be honest (and its funny because BMW know this is a problem for mainstream and are building technology to bring the clatter down in next-gen diesels)

Thanks Alex, looks like a good deal. For $40 including shipping I am going to buy myself a piece of mind and simply pour one bottle in before any long trip !

Hi,
Agree with all the virtues of the diesel but am getting a little concerned about the diesel exhaust fluid as the warning light lights up when the temperature drops below 15 degrees C. Even of greater concern was that the Engine Malfunction reduced performance message has come on. Will be taking my 35d in to the dealer to sort it out. |
