Miles driven: about 2700 (no precise count, trip counter was reset a couple of times) in 7 days.
Average highway driving speed: 85 mph
Average fuel consumption (according to car's computer): 24 mpg
Times being stopped by police: 0
We also had to add 1qt of oil and 1 bottle of DEF fluid at a random dealership in FL due to warning messages displayed on iDrive but I consider it normal since the car already had about 8500 miles on it before the trip and will require an oil change (according to iDrive) in about 500 miles from now.
All in all we had 0 issues aside from topping off various fluids and I was pretty satisfied with the way the car performed during various speed ranges and weather conditions (we experienced a very heavy rain when passing through Georgia).
Your MPG is similar to what I experienced at those speeds on a 3700 mile trip. Did you by chance have a Valentine 1 assisting you (I did)?

I traded in my 35d for a 2011 35i Thursday. I'm curious to see how the gas mileage compares.

That 24 mpg seems a little disappointing to me. I am hoping to to do better when my 35d gets here. Was that mostly highway miles? Of course, I guess averaging 85 mph compared to, say, 70 makes a significant difference.

all depends on driving style... I've managed to get avg 18.0 mpg on 4.8 during 180 miles trip over northern NJ yesterday - in 90/10 highway/local driving... I had to be extremely light-footed though, not much fun

Major difference. 70mph = 29mpg for my X5d. 85mph = 23mpg for my X5d.

I read a blurb on the internet yesterday that BMW claims the 8 speed tranny increases mileage 6 to 9 percent. I think it was an article about the new X3 coming out. I wish we could compare apple to oranges with the X35d and X35i with the same tranny...

there is plenty of torque to convert to speed at lower rpm in both of these engines !

I'd love to get another 9% better mileage with my 425ftlbs... this much torque is not too much for the new 8 speed? How much torque does the new V-8 have? 450

Wonder why they continue to build the six speed...

Where exactly in NYC do you drive to get 22mpg ???

Same here. Staten Island to NJ, Manhattan and Brooklyn around 21-22 mpg.
