Well....

Leaking oil again. Really dark oil that looks used. The d had an oil change recently. I am going to find the dipstick and check the oil color. Same spot on driveway, so I assume same issue. Appt. for next Wednesday.

Mine went in for the same oil leakage on passenger front a couple weeks ago. They replaced the seal on charge air pipe from tbrocharger. replaced charge air sensor and did reprogram... all good, oil leak fixed.

CEL came on last friday though brought it in Monday, with 4b3c (exhaust gast temp controller plausibility) just got it back.

they had no clue what to do so they replaced Exhaust Temp sensor (13-62-7-805-606) and reset. Said they 'think' this will work but needed to drive it for 60 miles. No way i was gonna let them drive it so i took it back and we will see if CEL comes back on after 60 mi...was in svc for 3 days m-w...at least SA was honest and said they had no clue...just wait and see i guess....

I remain concerned that they are thinking replacing a seal that is designed to hold air will contain an oil leak!

There should be NO oil in the air system.... Oil gets there from a turbo issue wherein oil that is supposed to be lubricating the turbos is leaking from a seal and being injected into the air flow.

I would be concerned with burned oil and the impact on the emissions system...

My 2 cents.

I noticed a similar leak from my X5d. 1-2 drops per day coming from passenger side front near where the lower suspension attaches to the chassis. The oil is very dark/black, oily in texture, and has absolutely no odor (not burnt smelling).

I am at 17k mi....I was gonna wait until the 22k mi service, but I will most likely bring it in sooner since I don't like the oil staining my nice pavers in my driveway.......

dmfelger, I see that you had yours repaired, but it still leaked afterwards......Did they fix it again, or was it just some residual oil leaking.....I see speciald14 had same type of leak with same parts replaced and it took care of the probem...Any further leaking or has it maintained good seal?

Thanks!

Same Leak

Spyderdoc,

I'll let you know. I just put it back into the shop. You described our leak exactly. Dealer ordered part and of course the only avail part was in Germany.

They have had the part for weeks. I was on vacation and just got back.

535i for a loaner, loaded. Nice car. I had just entered freeway and low oil warning pops up. MG.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they are replacing the same part that they already did or is it a different source of leak they are looking in to?

They thought they fixed it the first time. I am not sure what leaked this time but the leak was from the same area and looked the same on the driveway. They were able to pin-point it, hence the part order..

Originally, when I looked under the hood the first time, there was oil sprayed in the passenger side engine compartment, down low. It had also stopped leaking when I took it in. I seem to remember them telling me they had to consult BMWNA for guidance on what to look for. They had it for three days originally.

Anyway, we'll see.

Thanks again for the info. I bring mine in Sept 4th, so if you don't mind, please update me when you get it back so I can know what they found and replaced. Thanks!

Replaced Charge Air Line Hose w/seals

Part # 11-61-7-799-873. Real OEM says part is $239.17 + core charge. Seals are $8.69 and $6.65. Nothing out of my pocket.

Service supervisor really could not explain to me why there is oil in the air side other than to say oil coming from crankcase ventilation.

Makes no sense.

All OK, BMW buying back vehicle soon.

Thanks for the info. So this is what they replaced the first time, the second time, or both? I'll post when I find out what they end up finding on mine.....

Why they buying it back? Slow oil drip make it a lemon somehow? Other major issues? Or is lease up soon?
