How long does it take your blackberry to sync?
When I get into my vehicle, seems like it takes forever for my blackberry to sync via bluetooth and for the phone icon to appear on the screen! If I jump into my car and make a call, it goes into a daze and neither the car or the phone will kick in for literally a minute or two. That's a long time! I have to get in and wait before using the phone. This can't be normal. Anyone else with a blackberry experiencing the same?? I have even tried to disable transferring contacts and still no difference...

My Blackberry Pearl took about 5 minutes to fully sync with my non-iDrive E90. YMMV with the newer system I guess.

Its a day-by-day situation with my X. Been through the 8830 World edition, 8330 Curve, 9500 Storm, 9630 Tour and now the 9650 Bold (Tour2.) Sometimes, its around 20 seconds, sometimes 3-5 minutes. Sometimes the calls transfer from phone to when I start the car, other times its minutes before the call & car recognize each other. As for the newer CIC systems, its almost immediate (at least with each loaner that I have tried it on.)
I can't speak about the address book, or the sync as far as fixing them. What I can tell you is that with each phone, the sound got more crisper and clearer. With the Tour, there was a crackle when people spoke. With the Curve, each time I made a phone call, the center speaker would crackle when the car and phone would make the connection.

My storm and storm 2 connect with the car almost immediately, but I frequently have to go to "communication" to initiate the contacts synch.

It gets worse if you had to back out from your drive right after unlocking the car and starting the engine... It is much better with the new generation iDrive in my 2010 335i.

My 2005 non-Nav X5 synchs within 20-30 seconds with my BB Tour.

It would be great if there was some sort of "debug" mode where we could see what the heck the Bluetooth module was doing at boot up. It does seem to randomly go between quick & slow for syncing.
I've taken to unlocking my car from a distance so there is plenty of time between unlock and engine start. Seems to help boot things up more cleanly. (My phone: Motorola Droid on Verizon)

My experience ('09 X5 35d), is that if the iDrive has fully booted up before I try and sync, my blackberry will sync pretty quickly. But when I get in the car, start it, and the phone starts syncing during the iDrive bootup process, it can take a minute or so. I have a BB Pearl 8110.
I think a lot of the problem with the older iDrive is the amount of time it takes for the system to boot up. anything that tries to happen during that time (Bluetooth sync, backup camera, etc) seems to get really delayed. One tip, unlock the car with the key 30-40 seconds or so before getting in the car and starting it up. iDrive gets a jump on booting up that way, and things come up and sync a lot quicker, and you get the backup camera almost instantly. |
