06 X5 4.8is to 2011 3.0?

I plan on driving both the 5.0 and 3.0 this week. The cost of fuel and the vehicle itself (any my wife) are leaning towards the 3.0. Coming out of the 4.8is I'm leaning towards the 5.0.

I know the 0-60 times are the same (somehow) as my old X5 and the new 3.0 and I'm sure that is where it ends - the V8 will walk away after 60 MPH I'm sure...

So.. Do I do the "right" thing and pull the trigger on the V6 or just say F*#K it and go with the V8 - shudda had a V8 right!?!? Then again, if I go for the V8 my wife may pull a trigger.. Side note.. We have 2 babies - one is 2 and the other is 1.. And, my 335i convertible is going in order to make space for the new X!

Anyone have any words of wisdom for this almost 40 year old guy? Will the 3.0 keep me somewhat happy?

(Actually laughing at myself).. Thanks fellas..

Why would you not look at the diesel? Best of both worlds- grunt of a V8, economy of a 3L.

Don't be such an American....

5.0 speced out to my likes = 75,525
3.0 speced out to my likes = 67,975
Diesel speced out = 71,025

I would have to drive it. I honestly never considered it.

I just found this onfo on the D:

The X5 xDrive35d turbodiesel is still offered for the 2011 model year, and despite increased competition remains the fastest and most fuel efficient diesel-powered vehicle in its class. The vehicle’s 265 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque see it reach 60 mph from rest in 6.9 seconds..

Other than the torque it's slower than the 3.0 in 0-60..

It's an I6, not a V6.

That being said, I'm from Northern NJ too and I drive an '08 3.0, The V8 is a waste around here, the 3.0 is fine (at least for me).

Diesel costs more than premium by me, you might want to check into that before you consider the oil burner.

4500 eco credit puts it as:

3.0 s = 67,975
Diesel speced out = 71,025 -4500= 66,525

Depends what you are doing. I tend not to stop light race, but generally want to keep speeds up hill without much pedal effort, and be able to accel from 40-70 with ease. Torque does that.

Drive it, report back!

In a word, no.

It was set to expire july 1...of 2009. Seriously. They've 'renewed' the plan 3-4 times since then. The last was July 1, 2010. OP should search for the details.

Jetta commercial? Not seen it. .

Funny I am caught in the same dilemma. (35 v 50) My senses say...be reasonable...the 35 has plenty of power to handle all your needs...plus better gas mileage..better price. But the v8 is what made me really want my current x5! I can understand people who live in strictly stop n go metro areas (tri-state friends!) going for the 35. I live in a suburb type area where i am frequently on highways or even back roads where the 50 would really put a smile on my face. Additionally, I do not currently plan on owning a second vehicle, ie sunday car for fun. My x5 is responsible for fulfilling all of my foolish desires! As far as the diesel....I totally get it but it just is not for me. I will be pulling the trigger on a new lease in the next week, I will be sure to let everyone know what happens (a strange part of me wants to order a 550, but I should come to my senses and get another x!)
