Glad It Wasn't Raining!

had an odd thing happen today with my x5.

parked in front of an office building that i was entering for an hour meeting this afternoon. it was sunny and hot so i tilted the panoramic up for venting and set the parked car climate fan to start-up ~10 minutes before i expected to complete my meeting and return to my vehicle. i then grabbed a bag out of the rear hatch, shut it, and locked the doors/set the alarm with the key fob.

when i returned to my car after ~1 hour and 15 minutes, the rear windows were completely rolled down, the front windows were up, and the car was still locked. fortunately, nothing was stolen but i have no idea how this happened.

if i had inadvertently pressed and held the key fob while in my pocket, wouldn't all 4 windows be down and the car unlocked? this ever happen to anyone else?

Yes all 4 should come down simultaneously if pressing the fob. To this day my biggest fear is still the windows coming down on their own during a storm. Too many stories.

BTW, the parked car ventilation - you'd probably have the same result if you just opened all your windows as soon as you got back to it... hot air can escape pretty quick.

I thought this feature was so cool in our E53. And used it maybe 3 times before I realized that it is a pain to set and only really works if you can predict your return very precisely. I haven't even tried it in our E70 and probably never will. My life just isn't that predictable

That is very odd. Maybe a computer/electrical related hiccup with the parked car ventilaiton.

Don't use the parked car ventilation much. Too many steps and too slow to set. Mercedes has a cool feature where you simply just press a button and the car wil ventilate itself for a bit after the car is turned off. Great for quick runs inside a store. But kinda different from the parked car ventilation's goal.

Out of curiosity, do you have comfort access?

This has happened to a few people (do a search here or on bimmerfest) and some have incurred some serious water damage. Most incidents seem to be related to comfort access, though...

I have on two occasions locked the X, got out and looked back to see that the rear windows were down.

Sometimes you just put them down and forget to raise them again.

Its has not happened to with the X5 but happened several times with my E46, someone in here suggested removing battery cables overnight, but that didnt help either, some said the 'sensors' have no clue bout it, I havent taken it to BMW as I dont use it frequently and besides need to have a good balance in my account.

My big worry with you is, if it happened there is a high probability (almost closer to 1) that it will happen again!, the bad weather is one thing, 'Gone in seconds' is another!
