For mine, Toyota's "It's an isolated case", is far worst than "They all do that". At least LR is honest.

Either way LR's on-going problem has been indifferent built quality more than anything else. The original Discovery wasn't a bad thing given that it was little more than a late '80s Range Rover with a different body. The trouble was that the more that LR fiddled with the Discovery, the worse it became, sinking to a low point with the Discovery II. The Discovery 3, a clean-sheet design under Ford, then got the company somewhat back on the rails even if Ford never quite managed to solve the quality control problems which in fact had got worse under BMW stewardship.
