We have not raced to each other at higher speed, but I am pretty sure I could kick his a$$.

I have owned them both, the 35i is quicker. But the tranny is different in the two, so that can have some impact on the shifting/revs.

In Aussie spec the 35i is a bee's dick faster pedal-to-metal than the 35d (27.0 seconds verses 27.4 seconds for the standing-start kilometre), but the 35d is stronger in give and take driving given its mid-range power advantage.

That's an Aussie native bee. They are slightly better endowed than their North American or European counterparts ... that's the way things are down here.

At least they weren't Africanized bees...

Being a tech you should know that you can't measure anything fine with an African bee. Too big.
On a more serious note, the 35i also beats the 35d (again, this is Aussie spec) to 100km/h (62mph) by 0.4 sec from a standing start (6.8 vs 7.2 second). Given that there's also a 0.4 second difference for the standing start kilometre (27.0 vs 27.4 secs) you would have to think that the 35i gains its advantage on take-off but once rolling the 35d is every bit as fast. How much of this advantage is due to the 8-speed gearbox, or just the difference between turbo-diesel and turbo-petrol power is difficult to say. PS: The 40d we have Down Under now does a claimed 6.6 secs for the 0-100km/h sprint and 27.0 secs for the standing start kilometre. Last edited by Fraser; 08-26-2010 at 04:11 AM. |
