Barbara (barbja) was nice enough to do some photoshopping and here is what she came up with. I'm going to provide higher quality pics to get a better sense of the look with the 22" M wheels:

I'm going to be rude for a change (and for a minute)..

What is the fascination with RIMS?

Yes, they can add a lot (plus or minus) to the look of a car - I understand that.

But to be perfectly frank, owning a fine machine is much more of a turn-on than what people THINK it is you own. People think ML is the best car there is. Is that true?

(rhetorical question)

Can yours go faster? Driver further quicker? (off the line) etc. etc. etc.
Does it's "DNA" (shape, color, etc.) make the others look like yesterday's bread?

Sorry to intrude, I just think I've had my fill of "rim" issues and I had to say something.

To be honest, OUTSIDE physical characteristics END when you get in the car.

Obviously, we are all very concerned with how it looks OUTSIDE the car, but be reasonable. You can't see it outside the car, so.. WTF cares?

I am also a "watch" afficionado. (aka snob)
I used to own Breitling, but now I own Rolex.
Is it because it's "shinier?" (which it is)
No.
Is it because it's much more instantly recognizable?
No (but it is).
Or is it because it's a better watch? (yep)

So take your pick. I will even - at my own hazard- offer an opinion..

BMW (factory) has better taste than most people do.

'Nuff on that. Only my opinion. Y'all love your rims - go to it.

UKwilcat - I respect your view on this. I used to feel the same way until recently when I changed the wheels on this truck (twice so far). I disagree with "OUTSIDE physical characteristics END when you get in the car." I just get tired of the look and I'm sure you get a smile when you look at your car from the outside. The same exact look gets old after a while (to people like me who like to get new wheels). It's like wearing the same shirt (cleaned daily) everyday - even if it's a Hugo Boss $500 shirt, it gets old. I'd rather switch it to a $50 Converse shirt and have a new look. To each his own :-)

I AGONIZED over color choice.

AFTER I realized that none of them were really very exciting..
To each his own. Any color looks good on this car.

(yeah, yeah.. we live and learn)

VERY NICE PHOTOS. BEAUTIFUL.

Well, what is the fascination with LED angel eyes? You never see them when they're on unless you happen to be driving straight into a pane of glass, which is almost never. But you'd think that they had decided to leave the steering wheel out of the car at the level of protest that was generated by LED angel eyes not being included in US X5s. [I did switch mine over BTW. Why? Because I like how they look, I had the ability to do so, so I did.]

I personally am a wheel gal. That is what I look at when I walk up to my car. Not the rest of the car. I Loved the style 69 wheels on my E53 and I want to Love the wheels on my E70 and I don't. I REALLY don't. BMW didn't give me an option to get any stinkin' wheel that I like (my only other option were 214s which are among my least favorites). So I want to change them. Why in the heck would I spend almost $70k on a car and then not like it every time I walk up to it? Hm? I care what *I* think about my wheels. Me.

Of course I'm speaking for myself -- just letting you know that there are people out there that want to change their wheels for reasons other than what 'my peeps', 'the chicks', 'the dudes', 'the valets', (insert whoever) will think.

Thank you all who contributed to the thread and poll. Although I like the M-style wheels slightly more, I've decided to stay with my current wheels. I didn't have that "I have to get these" feeling. I'm also looking to purchase a Mercedes SL so I will put the money towards some new wheels for that

Many thanks to Barbara who spent the time to photoshop the wheels onto my car - I really appreciate it!
