My e53 was totaled this morning. Moving to an e70.
Well--I guess things don't always come out as planned as I was going to keep my baby ('01 3.0 with only 107K miles) until next year and then decide but I was in a slow moving accident where it rolled. I will post pics on the e53 board when I get a chance. Main thing is I was ok and nobody else was hurt. So, as much as I adore my new Camry as a rental I should be getting a check from Allstate for my car I'm guessing for around $12K. So, my options are as follows:
1) Buy new with the $12K down---either 50i with 20"s optioned out at $68K or go the lesser route and get 35i with 20"s for $62K. 2) Save the $12K and go the CPO route--I see an '08 with 18K miles, 20" wheels for $48K that has everything I need. 3) Save the $12K and go with an '09 non CPO for about $55K. Add'l Info: - this is a daily driver - I am single, no kids but a dog - my commute is 30 miles each way and no garage at work (1st job ever with no garage but I do have one at home) but we are hopefully going to start to work from home more here shortly the rumor is - I only want Jet Black (harder to come by as Sapphire is more popular recently) Any feedback is appreciated ! |

Good to read you are ok...
how did you get it to roll, at low speed? I vote for #2, but that's me trying to save $12Gs, vs a new ride that will depreciate ~20%+, the min you drive it away.

30 mile commute... might consider the diesel to save on gas. If you buy, you get the Eco credit of $4500 and a tax credit of $1800, so not a bad deal upfront either.

I was t-boned but I was just pulling into an intersection going maybe 10 mph--the car that hit me on the passenger side was coming into the intersection (they are a one way street into the intersection) was going about 25 mph. I use "low speed" loosely as neither car was travelling fast. I will post pics tomorrow.
As far as the suggestion on going diesel---I'm not a diesel fan + I probably will be working from home most likely soon and not commuting but 1 day a week. Last edited by BGM; 09-04-2010 at 09:52 PM. |

Congrats on survival without injury! Another bit of proof as to the safety of these vehicles.
I would vote for #2 option, also.

Used, get a thorough PPI, buy it from someone turning in a lease or needing to get out from under and getting screwed on trade in. Then, with the 7k you save, pay $3500 for a Gold extended warranty.
Even if you cpo you should get a ppi done. GL A PS I am so surprised that people value the CPO so much...weird.. |

Private party will- make that must- adjust price. They should drop as low as say $1000 over the dealer trade in allowance. Online pricing represents 'hope'. Dealers know they are the only place for that vaunted "cpo" and will hold out for the needy buyer.
I would not own this car without an extended warranty unless you are a BMW Tech. I'll likely consider one in 30k miles. |

Pics. I still don't understand how the hood got scraped and the driver's side---I think it bounced on the left side and obviously rested on the right side.
