Is the new xDrive40d not enough? I don't see that likely just one year after tweaking a drivetrain, would be an inefficient use of R&D and certification resources.
The North American market doesn't even get the current 40d because the 35d was just introduced 2 years ago here. |

6-series is supposed to get the 45d first before BMW puts on X5. It(45d engine) may not come to US.

Nope 40d is not enough ... the gap between 35d and 40d is not that great performance wise .. 45d is likely to take it closer to 50i performance ...i.e. a real performance diesel.

Not likely until the E90 retires. For cost-efficiency reasons, BMW wanted a diesel that would work in more than just one model.
