Dumb HUD Question

The X5 I am looking at supposedly has HUD. I drove it during the day and did not see it.

How do I check to see if it has HUD?

I know dumb Q

If you were wearing polarized sunglasses you cannot see the HUD. If the x5 has HUD it will have the projector located in a depression on the dash top in front of the steering wheel. The HUD can be turned on and off with iDrive. It could have been turned off.

There's also a button next to the headlight dial switch to turn the HUD on/off.

Easiest way to check if you have HUD is to see if there is a recessed screen in front of the driver's position on top of the dash above the instrument panel.

Also be aware that the iDrive can increase the brilliancy of the projection, and move the image to project higher or lower on the windshield. This may make a big difference when wearing polarized sun glasses - which tend to block the ability to read the HUD projection.

The HUD displays directly in front of the driver about 6 inches above the dash. I am sure the HUD must have been turned off or the brightness was way down. You can see the HUD very easily. The easiest way to verify is look on the dash infront of the spedo hump, if you see a cutout with a plastic shield and a thick plastic surround, it has a HUD. I love my HUD and will always order going forward on a BMW

HUD is AWESOME.

Friends were all like "you don't need that - are you stupid?" but now I can't live without it (well, not without getting a ticket anyway..)
