Mine just had same problem. Has had low battery problems lately, so I wasn't sure if it was a software or sensor issue. Going in for the battery in a few days, so will find out what it really is. What was the outcome of your case, a year ago?

The car has been in for over a week - first to address some battery issues which led to a water-damaged "watersealed" computer box under the hood, which might have been causing some gremlins, and then the high oil level (oil is fine but the error code is there) and "transmission failure" messages coming up on the nav screen. They don't seem to know what it is, but they have had the car for over a week. Thank god for free loaner cars, but given this car's three year service history, I wonder what kind of deal they would make me for a 2013...I love the diesel but it has had a lot of electrical issues.

I had this problem. Dealer actually put too much oil in. That particular dealership is totally incompetent. I had the oil removed and a new sensor put in at another dealership. Fine now.

Due to this thread, I decided to check mine electonically, as I didn't recall the last time I did. Yup, sure enough, I get the same message (you would think the warning would come up when starting the car--you actually have to go and search for it yourself
). I had my annual oil change back in Sept mind you!So I go and check the dipstick and this is what I see. First two pics are after I wiped the ds, last 2 are before wiping. Perhaps I've become accustomed to drinking the BMW koolaid and gotten use to the electronic ds, but shouldn't the oil line be between the two markings. As you can see, the oil is leveled with the MAX block. I go and search for the invoices of when I received my 2 oil changes and the first one notes (7) quanities of oil, but my last oil change notes (8) quanities of oil ![]() Looks like another trip to the dealer. I was just there for the steering bolt recall! While it's there, I should have them look into a faint whiff of diesel in the morning--probably that infamous diesel exhaust leak....

Approaching 2 weeks in the shop. As of today, the dealer has tried some recommended steps following a Puma case with HQ, but that did not work. They are checking wiring harnesses for shorts, they already tried software, and replaced the sensor (the oil was a little low, even if the car thinks it is too high). They will be trying another Puma case - possibly replacing more parts to sort this out. What have others done that has solved the problem? My 3 year old car (with only 26,000 miles) is starting to look like a lemon, even if it no longer qualifies under local law.

OP, is this an original battery? 26k miles on a three year old car is low. If the battery is getting weak, the newer BMWs do weird things under low voltage... just wondering.

Just got this warning this morning. 2010 35d with about 38,000 miles, original battery, nothing done to add oil in at least one month. Started driving sluggish this morning out of the garage, yesterday was fine, after about 20 minutes the engine icon appeared on the dash and the oil level too high error message showed up on the screen. Dealer took it in right away and gave me loaner. Waiting to hear if it is just a sensor.

got mine back today after more than two weeks. They have a new DDE on order (due by mid-march) and still have to fix the automatic trunk which won't close. Suddenly having a lot of electrical problems - battery replaced as the old one was bad, high oil level (although not really high), automatic trunk won't close (but it will open), transmission failure msg. All of these might be related to the bad battery, but with the battery replaced, the trunk is acting up again, and the oil level is still reported as too high. Glad I'm under warranty, but losing confidence in BMW's ability to keep my low (26,000) mile 2010 x5 running much longer. I may ask about a discount on a warranty extension.

The DDE is now coming next week - will report back if that does the trick, but I have noticed that oil level is now reporting it is normal - sounds like bad codes or a wiring problem for it to be intermittent.
