2010 X5 35d "Oil level too high" warning on iDrive...

Hi,
Have had several BMW's in the past, but this is the first one with the iDrive systems check. My 2010 X5 35d shows "oil level too high" when checked via iDrive. Checking via the dipstick shows the oil level right on "max". The vehicle has the most up to date software. Could it be a sensor? Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks in advance!

The sensor can fail, and yes this has been seen before. Not specific to a new 35d but they are likely the same sensor as past years. See your dealer.

Actually, yes it does, and not just the one behind the wheel!

Just need a temp gauge and we're set...

OK. Fate strikes.

Car is showing "oil too high". Dipstick fine.

Dealer stymied. In shop for 5 days so far (with loaner). Sensor removed and cleaned, software checked...PUMA case launched.

Hmmm.

Standby for more, but I'll never trust the E-dipstick. Clearly a bad idea (IMO)

I parked on a steep upslope and when I came back and started the car it said my oil level was below minimum. Freaked me out but later on when I checked in i-drive it was near max.

Isn't the dipstick on the 35d somewhat hidden, and not easy to access? Does some panel or part need to be removed, to even access the dipstick?

Nah, it's just awkward. It's on the left side of the engine (right side looking at the engine from the front). Horizontal, located under the air intake "hose" about 1/2-3/4 towards the back if I remember right.
