It may come as a complete surprise to you, but moat of us are members of "multiple" forms. I hope that's ok with you. Would you like me to run the rest of the ones I post on by you ? You can let me know if you approve of them or not.

Of course it's OK, I read multiple forums as well. I just thought the group over there getting together to plan a response on this forum was funny.

I thought the lack of information being spread was funny. Not by you. But by Lucky Charms. Notice how he begged for a picture , got it and shut up. Every statement he made has been proven wrong. I'm trying to figure out if he works at Cobb or Procede.

I am completely prepared to be corrected if they are in fact just cosmetic.

LOL @ lucky charms! I'm staying out of this one. Aidan - thanks for speaking up and removing all doubt that you are clueless.

Care to explain why or how in your opinion that I am clueless? The box has a resistor. The box only has a chip because it is variable. If it wasn't variable then it would only have the need for a single 5cent resistor. Or maybe you are referring to the anti-tuning ECUs? Feel free to contact BMW regarding them. Yes some are using them so are not. They are relatively new so perhaps BMW are still running them on a trial basis but it is the way forward for them. |

Our buddy kept claiming all we would see were 2 wires. That's what was being disputed.

I claimed that you will find a resistor in the box and guess what I see in the photo Terry posted? 2 resistors! So what is in that box? 2 RESISTORS. There is a huge 28 pin chip in there also. This is used to allow for adjustment of the variable resistors. Now to close on this one, as I have proved my point that those tuning boxes do is RESIST the signal going to the ECU I have typed up a paragraph on what I think of tuning boxes and this is my opinion on them. Yes I will generalise all resistor type tuning boxes as they can all be made at home with all the parts purchased from ebay for less than 30 or 40 usd. If you were buying them in bulk they would be much cheaper. Definitely a huge profit margin in them. Tuning Boxes in my opinion. Tuning boxes are the mother of all evil in this world of tuning. I am sure they were developed in a secret facility by satan himself and that is putting it mildly. With ECU remapping you change ALL the needed parameters that run your engine. A tuningbox just lies to your engine management system, throwing it off balance and feeding your engine the wrong amounts of fuel etc. Very often you will see powerboxes on ebay, which are basically two plastic plugs, a small box and a 5 cent resistor poured into black resin. Some of the more advanced ones will have 2 resistors and a chip to allow it to be adjusted, adjusting the power of signal going to the ECU. If you want to get rich quick with an astronomical profit margin you should start selling tuningboxes, because the company logo sticker on the outside is the most expensive part of it. Do they give you a noticeable effect? Yes, you will get some more performance, accompanied by a tail of black smoke and an engine that hates you forever. Still want to buy a tuningbox? Read this paragraph again. |
