Think of it this way. If the dealer is trying to sell it to you in the Finance office, there is a 90% chance that you don't need it. The only thing I got was the wear and tear warranty which covers worn tires and dents, scratches and windshield. If I get a crack in my windshield, that alone will pay for 3 of the warranties. I also can turn my X5 in with bald tires and they will replace them for no cost to me.

Me too. My dad had a rock chip the windshield on his 5 series, and it was close to 2 grand to replace it.

He was with me when I got the X5 and told me to make sure I got that coverage.

That would be covered by insurance anyway...right?

Do you people not have automobile insurance?!?!?

I had a $50 deductible on my Comprehensive coverage... it costs a few hundred bucks more a year...and given that I do two windshields a year among 5 cars, it pays for itself.

Not to mention deer collisions, or other comprehensive claims. (everything except hitting something). And Comp claims are not 'chargeable', in that they will not increase your rates. (edit: not all states, so check yours)

Collision I keep at 500.

So I guess I don't know why people buy 2,3 warranties for cars. Christ with 5 cars I'd go broke buying warranties! Why buy a 'worn tire warranty' and not just replace worn tires??? I mean what if they wear out 6 months before your lease is up?

And why do people use stupid "BMW Dealer Tire Prices" to justify their warranty purchases? You CAN patch a RFT, the tire MFG recommends it, and even if you need to replace it is ~100% more at a dealer.

PS Happy BGM?

Well for us "single folk", who don't have multiple cars, it's not as much of burden on the pocket book.

Yes we know the dealer price is crazy--I always went to Discount Tire for replacements on my '01 X5 but still these 20s on the e70 are not cheap--even at DT I think the rears are $500.

PS I was really hoping for more of a Simon Cowell response
