re fuel economy: we avg 11mpg on the v8tt and the prev v6 got 14mpg so again not a big difference.
It's not a V6!!! It's an inline six.

Why not the 35D? I currently own the X5 4.8i and wouldn't purchase anything but the 35d for my next car...

I was waiting for someone to make that correction.

Perhaps I'm too pedantic for my own good but stuff like this just drives me nuts. Just like people who call the 35d or the 35i a 3.5-litre! Likewise, the new 40d we have here in Oz is often referred to as "BMW's new 4.0-litre diesel".

I say again.... Try diesel before you order... You'll be surprised! There are many people on this board who had pre-LCI 4.8, went to diesel and never looked back. Just try, I heard test drives are free

Its all about the diesel. Drive one, its the best combination of power/fuel economy. If you don't care about the mileage at all, then by all means, the 5.0.

Listen to Alex. I had a 4.8i E70, 2 ML63 AMGs (503 hp), a 4.8is and a G55 AMG. The diesel is the best of everything! Crazy torque right away, great engine sound...and 20-25 mpg!!

Put all your misconceptions of diesel away...and test drive one. You may just realize a 35d might be better than the 50i

Sorry guys but the 35d just isn't really an option for me. I might be a little ignorant on the subject but sound, smell, difference in technology isn't really for me.

I'm really leaning towards the 50i. As far as gas I just checked my Infiniti G37s and its getting average 17 MPG on a mix of highway, city, and traffic.

Yes getting the better model has always been my way I guess it's a guy thing just knowing what you have not that I'm about bragging and such. If im going to spend 60k on a suv then what's an extra 5k to get the top of the line? If I spend this kind of money and have any regrets im going to be pissed lol.

One of the problems is the extra down payment. Since I'm about to get out of my lease it's going to coast me some $$$. Just to get out of the lease it's 300, plus right now I owe about 350$ for miles, plus I got hit while in a parking garage which is about 550$ worth of damage, and anything else the dealership wants to throw at me , possibly tires. With a 5k down payment and another 115$ a month makes this difficult.

Also I went online to Geico and State Farm and did an online quote. Im 30 years old with a perfect driving record and was quoted 100 a month for 35i and 120 a month for 50i for there almost best package. Is this even close? Right now I have allstate and I'm paying over 200 a month?!?!?!

Is NJ worst for insurance than NY? I'm not sure, but I'm only paying $387 for 6 months ($65/mo.) for full coverage w/ glass in NY. It's Allstate. I am getting discounts like home ownership, accident prevention, and something called Premier Plus (-$100), whatever that is. I did indicate max 7500mi./yr.

NJ is I believe the worst in the US. Just recently Allstate increased my insurance by 550$ a year for no reason. I flipped and asked why and all they said was there was a increase to everyone in NJ they had no control of it. I decided to just pay it since im getting rid of the car, and will shop at that point. I just bought a house, just turned 30, and never had a single point, ticket, or accident. So I guess a 1200$ a year policy isn't to far fetched?
