X5 50i or 35i? Need opinions
What your opinions? I would have to put 3k more down and about 100$ more a month... Would it really be worth the extra cash? Will Dinan come through with a tune for the 35i? Pro's and Con's? Thanks!!! |

Just ask yourself will the $3k matter to you at the end of the year, and if $100/month more is comfortable....then OF COURSE get the 5.0i. If you are second guessing yourself now, you'll be kicking yourself if you get the 3.5i. I think the 3.5i is GREAT, and plenty power for me...but the 5.0i is in a league of it's own!!
Get the V-8! Just be prepared to be spending A LOT more time at Chevron with the 5.0i!!!! ![]() |

Seriously. I find myself seeing the gas pump so much more. I can only imagine the 50i

At $3k more down +100/month I say go for the 50i. It lags the 35i by only 3mpg and the 8-spd with the 4.4 turbo is butter in city driving.
I'll go as far to say I enjoy the 8-spd / 4.4L combo over the 6-spd / 4.4L combo in the X5M for regular non-spirited driving, feels more "effortless" in the 8-spd. I own both. Unfortunately, no feedback for 35i as I've never driven one.

I took 50i out for drive and found the v8 not as well matched to the bulk of x5 compared to 40d. Of course you don't get the 40d in the us and even your 35d is slightly defined, pity. Hope you guys get 40d is year, it's perfect.

I got the 35i and absolutely love the engine. Definitely no lack of power at any speed at all. All that being said, if you can afford the extra $ up front, monthly and the gas, GET THE 5.0. If I could do it all over again I would. No 'need' for it but fast is never fast enough...
