Well, it definently sounds like I should wait for more miles on the car before I take it in the dealer. I've actually filled up 2 times already and the car came with a full tank of gas. I did call the dealer and they did want me to watch it again on one more tank. They said that even though the car is not fully broken it, it still shouldn't be getting 13. We'll see in the next couple of weeks. Glad to know that all of you are getting great mileage!

I don't even look--why bother. I mean we don't buy these to compare MPG.

I'm getting the same average of 13mpg. I just passed the 1200 mile mark. Did a trip to Vancouver bc yesterday and averaged 19 mpg. So I guess once the engine is settled the mpg will improve. |

40d MPG
I get an average 23 mpg (US) with my 40d, only 20% city, driving 75 to 85 on the motorway.

Last time I checked, my pop's 2010 xDrive35d has an average of 9,1 l/100km with about 14500km on the odo.
Do the conversions yourself.

2008 3.0Si. 16 mpg combined city/highway. I usually get 18-20 mpg highway depending on if I'm heading up to the mountains. When I drove from Dallas to Denver all highway, I got 26 mpg. Man, I wish I could drive highway all the time.

I got only 14-15mpg on my first couple of tanks, although I did vary the RPMs quite a bit using sport mode during the engine break-in process. After about 1.5K miles, I've been consistently getting about 16-17mpg in city driving, and 21-22 on hwy. My last tank I squeezed out 370miles (70% hwy/30% local) on 18.5 gallons for an even 20mpg.
To the OP, do you idle alot? You will see that excessive idling has a big effect on mpg. I left it running for 1/2 an hr once and it brought my overall mpg down by close to 2 for the tank, when I had more than 200 miles driven already.

2011 x5 35i 500 mi on odometer. 20 mpg overall. this includes heavy la traffic and 800lbs of hauling for 50mi and about 50% of 75 mph highway cruising. ohh yeah also more than a handful of full throttle starts for proper break in

As it broke in some more, it did get CONSIDERABLY better. I drive like.. well, rather aggressively these days now that I'm getting used to it and the computer holds steady at 19.6MPG, all city, @ 9500 miles. On the highway, it will get almost 26MPG and that's according to the computer AND measured. Generally speaking, I've noticed that the computer tells the truth over a longer term (i.e. more than one trip). I have read here before that you can expect it to be broken in by 12-15K miles. Mine is not budging past 19.5MPG, but that's JUST FINE in my opinion, for 300 horses / 300 pounds pushing around what does this thing weigh? 5500 pounds? Most people that ride with me would swear I get horrible mileage, but when I tell them it's steady at 19.6MPG in the city, they ALWAYS ask "What? Driving like THIS!?" Yep. I didn't really measure it at top speed. Not that I would know what that is. Nope. <cough> 130 <cough> I'm sure it does worse there. |
