^ that's unfortunate. Maybe some music will soothe your troubles. Literally, and loudly.

The damn glove box is electric?! Wow. BMW really needs to stop reinventing the wheel.

You should read the write-up BMW has on it. It even has electronic sensors to sens when it is closed, etc. It is the most Rube Goldberg design I have seen in a long time.

And then they try to save $5 bucks by eliminating the prop cylinder for the rear floor access...

Isn't there a point where they just realize too much is too much? I thought the button just pushed a latch and springs opened the door(s). If it's electric, would it be that hard to add in an auto-close motor? Cmon, I bet they even considered it too.

Mine won't close & the stealer is useless. Any clues on which fuse it is are greatly appreciated. As for rattles, mine always sounds like the tailgate is opening & closing it's that bad. Was toying with an X5M but don't think so. Loved the old E53, but not as keen on this bus.

Thanks

Off topic...but, I cannot agree with you on that. E70 > E53. Oh, and yes, I did own an E53.

I've had this issue twice now!

Errr.... but both times its been my fault, the problem is a blown actuator. I actually have the part on order at my dealer. This is the second time this has happened to my X but its my fault for experimenting with LEDs. DO NOT TRY TO SWITCH YOUR GLOVEBOX BULB FOR AN LED BULB!.

I loved my E53 too, but wasn't so enamored with my E70. I loved pretty much everything about the inside, but how it looked and how it drove pretty much turned me off. I traded it in for an X6 after a year and I'm more than happy. I think that my e71 is optioned exactly the same as my e70 except the addition of the completely frivolous, but way cool, soft-close doors.

The e71s size, and therefore the handling, is closer to my e53 (except, well, WAY better). I'm back to not being able to fit most furniture in my car again though. But surprisingly I can actually pack more into it than I could my e53 because I can use that space where the spare goes. Cool.

Just changed the glove box LED and think I might have popped a fuse or something because all I hear when I push the glove box button is a click. But the door doesn't open. I've been looking around and came find the emergency release cable. Is there one for the glove box? I figure If I can get it open then I can replace the fuse myself. Or do I have to bring it to the dealer for service? I've seen on other threads where ppl have also changed their glove box led and the fuse pops. I guess I'll have to stick to the stock one once I get it unstuck. Thanks guys!

What you describe is exactly what happened to me. There is a fuse for just the glovebox and the shop had to track it down so I did not learn the location of the fuse. I'm fairly certain the fuse is readily accessible and easy to replace based on the service advisors comments. You might want to call your service advisor and ask how to access the fuse or google away? manual?

Good luck
