Thinking to trade in for a xdrive50i

I want to buy a xdrive50i. It is fully loaded but it doesn't have adaptive drive. Should I go for it? Anyone who has a xdrive50i without adaptive drive… how is it?

Fully loaded xdrive48i

I had adaptive drive on my X (which was just a 3.0) and rarely used it. It did improve the handling but the car seemed to handle just fine without it. If you have a fully loaded 48i now, it should have AD, right? So shouldn't you already know whether you'd miss it?

Anyway, my thought is that you probably won't miss it if you've never had it. Of course, there are sure to be many responses that say it's a must-have.

It does have adaptive drive. And that makes the handling so much better. The question is how does a xdrive50i with sport package but without adaptive drive handle.

well you never were able to turn it off if you had it so it was always on. The sport button only adjusted suspension stiffness and in that case I couldn't even tell the difference there. The only real way to know is to drive both with and without AD cars back to back.

That said, I did it a few weeks apart and the difference wasn't earth-shattering from what I recall, but I can tell you in my AD car, I take sharp-turn on/off-ramps without even having to brake - there is a lot of g-force but little to no body roll. The first time I felt that I was floored at how it was possible (coming from a regular SUV from 1995). I didn't really get to do that in my non-AD test drive.

Everything is very stiff as-is - so go test drive both and only you can see if you care.

I see. I thought that the sport button essentially turned adaptive drive on and off. Thanks for the clarification. I never looked much into the differences because AD was part of the sport package at the time, which I was getting no matter what, so I had it and never even considered an X without it.

That being said, I can't imagine how it is worth the $3500 now. I don't like the fact that BMW made it a standalone option...

I dont' think I'd pay $3500 for it alone either. I wonder how many do now. I guess that makes our pre-LCIs that much more special right? I'm really jealous of what's new out there, so I gotta find the silver lining.
