Deep Sea Blue vs Sparkling Bronze vs Platinum Grey with Pictures
After our test drives last weekend we moved some colors off our list and were down to 2...until my wife saw Deep Sea Blue. Now that is on the list. We were set on Sparkling Bronze but after seeing it in the parking garage and not under florescent lights, we're back on the fence. It just felt really flat, where the deep sea blue had a nice hue in the garage too. But I'm wondering if the blue will get old and maybe as much as I don't want to...play it safe and get a form of grey. We're also indecisive between the Sport and Prem package. I really like the sport headliner with the Oyster seats and the wide 20" rims. The hesitation is that I live in MN and 5-6 months of the year, I'll need to have 19" rims and snow tires on there if I get the sport package. That means there will be a gap between the edge of the wheel and the fender flare that will be noticeable. I will not use spacers, just not comfortable with them. I've always loved the 20" rims but I'm thinking it might be nice to not have the headache of buying winter rims and tires, and then living with a odd looking wheel recess for 5-6 months (half a year). Not to mention I'll save roughly $4,000 ($2,000 on the sport pkg, and then $2,000 on the winter rims and tires). Let me know what you guys think. |

Of those choices, I'd definitely go with the DSB. I had a Topaz blue E53 for 7y and I never tired of it.
I traded the E53 for a PG E70 last June and I've missed my E53 since day one. (It really didnt help that someone was picking up a DSB at the performance center at the same time I got mine). I saw my old car on the road one day and wanted to go hug it! I too wanted to play it safe this time because I planned on trading it in in 3y or less and I liked PG in the press photos I saw ( I ordered in April before 2011 production started). I've found that I must blend in to the pavement too much because I'm getting a lot more cutoffs now, it's harder to find my car in a parking lot, and it just doesn't give me the 'I love my car feeling' when I walk up to it like a $65k+ car should. (No offense to those whose PG was their first choice). On SB, I've always thought it was an 'eh color on the X5 in press photos and on the dealer lot. I saw one in the showroom yesterday and it looked pretty good. I guess anything will look good all shined up and under a zillion watts of florescent lights! I say, go with the color that makes you say: oh what a beautiful car. |

I think DSB stands out. It would look great with the Oyster interior.
Regarding Sport, go for it. It makes the car. Even though you'll be on winters a lot, the rest of the upgrades are year around. I've got an M Sport with staggered 19s. I just put winter tires on those. The Pirelli Scorpion Snow & Ice come in staggered 19s or staggered 20s sizes. Even with extra wide winters, you'll be fine. I had no issues with mine, on sheer ice and could handle any steep snowy driveway as well. Just pick up some decent 19s or 20 for the winter setup, clear some spacve in the corner of the garage for storing tires and you're set. Plus you'll now have all summer to agonize over which winter rims to get.

Just picked up a 35d in Sparkling Bronze and it's gorgeous. People stare at it constantly. Here are a few pics of it, sorry it was snowing when we picked it up, waiting for the windows to be tinted and the car clean to take better ones.
I guess color is a personal choice, get the one you think you'll enjoy most :-) |

In my opinion Platinum Grey with a very light color inteior (white or cream) is the most refined, mature, gracefuly smooth image...... but with a hint of "bling bing"
If one is looking for the finer things in life..... your ride will be seen. But at the same time, if you dont want to give off the image "LOOK AT ME" this color combo can blend in so to speak. I feel that Platinum Grey with a very light color inteior would match my personality the best. Are you a flashy person? Or reserved? |

Depends!
I do have a grabber blue with white racing strips Shelby GT500. So that might put me in the flashy category. I really like the Dark Graphite color on the new 5 series, though I've yet to see PG in person on an X5. The pictures do make it look classy and well finished but not seeing the color in person makes me really nervous. SB has been a love/hate relationship based on first pictures (attracted), show room (I'm in love), cloudy day (we're not speaking). I think DSB might win out because it's my wife's favorite at this point. Though I'm leaning more towards PG or SB. She always wanted a M3 in that really light blue color growing up. Her initials then were MMM and I think that was the main attraction. I think that is where she is getting the blue affliction. When DSB is in the dark it looks pretty cool, just wondering what it'd be like on a sunny day. |

If I did not get Alpine White (which I love and IMO, is one of the best colours on the E70 with 214 wheels and Sport Package), I would choose Platinum Gray. It is beautiful, timeless, elegant and it seems to change in different lighting and weather conditions.
For me, black and Sparkling Bronze are my last colour choices. They are not "ugly", they just do nothing for me. Deep Sea Blue is very beautiful, but blue and green historically have the worst trade in/re-sale value (if that matters to you). I honestly think you cannot go wrong with any of the colours you are choosing. You must select the one that gives you the "I gotta have that" feeling. That is what Alpine White did for me. The same feeling with my Dark Graphite Metallic 750i and my Interlagos Blue M3 I had....upon first sight, I knew in my gut that was "The Colour". Go with your gut!!! Here's a quick pic of my Dark Graphite Metallic 750i:

We just ordered our DSB with Cinnamon and are very excited about it. Oyster looks REALLY sharp but we wanted something a bit darker since it is going to be the family hauler. We really liked Sparking Bronze as well.
