Reverse parking sensor and towbar

Does anyone know how to stop the reverse sensor from constantly beeping due to the tow bar? The audible sensor beep is driving me and my family nuts. I have removed the towbar and the problem goes away, but I live in a rural area and would like to leave the tow pack on permanently.

Appreciate any ideas?

Reverse parking sensor and towbar

Hi, I have the identical vehicle with a tow hitch. I had imaged the computer was programmed at time of tow hitch installation.

Is it the OE trailer wiring kit? If so, it typically turns off the rear PDC. As noted above, dealer programming is sometimes required for the vehicle to recognize that the towing module is installed.

I thought it only turned off the rear PDC if you had the electric plugged in... At least that's how it works on mine.

I agree. I wouldn't have thought that the towbar itself would be enough to trip the PDC sensors, but if so, then it would normally take something being connected to the harness to turn it off.

i think you have to have something plugged into the harness, as I have same problem with PDC when I use a hitch-mounted bike rack. I wish you could at least disable the beeps and have a visual-only warning on the screen when backing up...drives the whole family crazy.

Here is a thread with a previous discussion on the topic, and APW2607's home-made solution. Read the two links in my post #2 there:
