Shattered Window from break in
I work out at LA Fitness in Hamden, and the staff worker told me that this kind of thing happens way to often. You would think they would get some cameras for the lot. They pryied a screw driver between the trim and window to shatter it, then ripped the sunvisor down. In the end, they weren't able to get in fast enough and took off. Now Im left with the clean up and repair. |

Im having my window replaced tomorrow, but have to wait for the roll up sunshade.
Does anyone know if the shade can be replaced without having to remove the door panel again? Thanx |

Make sure they open the door panel and vacuum out all the bits of glass from the interior... it takes effort go get every bit from the inside as little pieces can get stuck on the misc nooks and crannies. (This can turn into annoying rattles.)
I once had a driver window shatter and the bits fell onto the paint, causing nicks... $1900 in paint and blending later we were good to go. |

What were they trying to steal. Lifetime Fitness in the Twin Cities is having the same problem. They said people sit in the lots and know that people will be in the club for at least an hour. Thieves are targeting laptops and iPhones that people leave in their cars.
Lifetime is telling people not to leave stuff in their cars. They have also increased police monitoring (one of their clubs with issues is very near the police department!) |

I had a similar thing happen years ago to a different car when I lived in NY and had the window replaced in brooklyn. They never did get all the glass inside the door and it would drive me nuts everytime i hit a bump
Im bring it in to the dealer and they assured me they would get all the glass out. I really didnt have anything visable in the car. But they figured people leave their wallets, bags, watches, phones, etc. in the cars while they work out. Could you beleive my dealer wants $300 for the rear window pull up shade |

Today, the driver's side rear window was blown in by a rock kicked up by a weed eater. Hard to fathom this happening when I was driving by on a on ramp. Fortunately, by daughter was not riding with me as she usually does.
FernMD, did you have the dealer replace your window? I am considering using a local automotive glass company with excellent reviews. They are markedly cheaper than the dealer, but I am a little leery. My concern is if there is anything in the replacement/repair process that would require a BMW technician. i.e. syncing window regulators, having factory clips or rivets available, etc. Also, should I be concerned using OE glass (with no BMW logo)? Input from anyone would be appreciated.
