I found a used set (Calipers, Rotors, Pads, Backing Plates with only 2300 miles from a 2012 M) on Ebay for $1500. So I couldn't pass it up... Going to paint them up this week and install them next week. I also have the matching M hubs, so if they are needed, I'll have them ready. Trying to decide if I want to have my Indie do the swap or do it myself... Thanks, I'll update as it progresses.

The front hubs are the same size.

From the wheel fitment, yes, I agree.
However, they are a different part number for my 2008 4.8 and the 2012 M brakes that I am trying to fit. Most all of the other front suspension parts are the exact same part numbers... Even if you compare 2009 4.8 to 2009 M, the front hubs are different part numbers, so there must be something else different about them... Deeper front to back, or something. I haven't looked at both of the hubs side by side, but by the end of next week I can tell you for certain if it matters. If not, I'll have some nice paper weights. ![]() Although, I will probably change my 4.8 hubs with 72k miles, for the newer M hubs with 2.3k miles, just for the mileage/wear factor. Thanks...

New (to me) ///M Brakes
Got the used parts for the brake upgrade on my 4.8i, and going to have them installed this week. I have the protection plates and the ///M hubs as well. Also doing stainless/braided lines to go with these.
More Photos after the install is complete...

By the way, rotors on regular x5 are bigger in diameter than most vehicles, large and small. In addition, the brake pads seem to be wider (judging from shiny part of the rotor). That could explain stopping distance for x5 being shorter by ~30 feet compared to competition. That reminds me. I got iDrive telling me my brake service is due. 1300 miles for fronts, 2500 for back. A bit weird how it works. A month ago, iDrive told me my fronts are due in 15K, rears due at 3K. Now the fronts "passed" the rears in a couple weeks time. |

I find it weird that they shedded 13,700miles worth of life in a couple weeks

That is why there are multiple stages to the sensors on each axle, so the system can auto-correct the algorithm based on actual pad sensor signals. Up until that last trigger, the estimate was based on how many times you applied the brakes, and how hard you applied them. Not surprising that can be off.

Seems like that's a pretty simple sensor with 3 stages at most. 60k miles > 15k miles > 1.3K. |

First trigger is a calibration trigger, at mid life Second trigger is the pad near-replacement trigger. The algorithm counts applications and severity, and adjusts. The first trigger modifies the algorithm to a known set point. BMW and simple aren't words that are usually used in the same sentence, IMO.
