Roof Rack Drivers Side Rust Showing

Hello,

Brought in my 2008 X5 "just purchased" CPO'd . The Roof rack was showing some signs of rust on the drivers side. The dealer agreed to replace the rack . They only replaced one side of the roof Rack!!!!!! Clearly this is not going to match up with the passenger side. Dealer states that since there is no defect in the passenger side they would not be able to replace. I pretty much think this is like painting half of the roof ..... Any thoughts anyone else have the same issue ? Should BMW replace both sides ? Am I just a PITA customer...... Dam the dealer pisses me off!

pimptech,

If you haven't had the bad side replaced yet you might want to ask if they will do the other side if you pay for the parts. The labor to change out the roof rack takes quite a long time.

I agree with your dealer because BMW will not pay them to change out the good side.

Yes, but I prefer to use the phrase "customer with unrealistic expectations". It isn't a one piece rack, they are separate roof rails. If only one is bad, only one gets replaced.

Can you see the difference between the two now that the job is done? If so, polish up the old rail to see if you can get a similar look.

Red face rusty roof

So I picked up the truck and it's not really a noticable difference . Just need some polish for the other side and i should be good to go. Any recommendations ?

Yes it was the same rear piece which started to bubble. I wish I would of paid for the other piece if I would of known they were not going to replace both rails. I didn't realize they rip the roof apart to remove....
