tailgate fixed - What did they do

They put this special kind of black tape on the hinge were the top meets the bottom half. Hope it works out

Aside: as someone who came so close to lemoning one BMW, you must have a deep love for this vehicle to go buy another, even if it is for your son. I like my X a lot but if I had the wherewithal you seem to, I would be looking at Cayenne S myself.
