Thoughts on Extended Warranty and diesels

Good Morning:

I have a 2009 X5d with 48000 miles and drive a lot in my job. This is the finest vehicle I have ever owned and no problems except some DEF sensor and subsequently one of the tanks had to be replaced.

I have been reading up on the pros and cons of purchasing extended warrantees. There are hundreds of posts and opinions, many of which I have read.

However diesels have only been sold in the US since 2009. Hence most owners are probably still under factory warranty and I presume most independent BMW garages have not seen many diesels.

Simple maintenence like oil, brakes, transmission are likely the same as any E70. But diagnosis and repair of engine, exhaust, emissions are unique to diesels.

I am therefore inclined towards purchasing at least an extended warranty ( not maint.) since I am likely to use the dealer for any major repairs. Dealer repairs will be the most expensive so the warranty also makes sense to me.
