x5 acceleration issues
My wife was driving and said all lights went on (error warning signs) and car wouldn't go faster than 20-30 mph obvioulsly BMW is closed today (but we hasd to get car towed there)... but i called my salesman whom i go the car from in California, he said it may be the battery?? car was on a truck for 2 weeks from Cali - NJ being delivered to my house -- does this sound correct a new battery can fix the car? is this common.. thank go no kids yet or i would be really really pissed having this occur after 2 days of ownership -- any advice would be appreciated thanks bob |

I guess it's possible. The batteries do run down and it is a good idea to charge them (or drive the car a decent distance) after it has been sitting. My new X5 was sitting in a lot for a while waiting to get prepped (dealer ordered and stocked) and they were concerned about getting the battery going after it had sat.
Obviously best bet is to take it in and let the service folks look at it. I know you're not happy, but try to be kind to the service folks, it will get you a long way to faster service. They should set you up in a loaner. |

You should know that the "CPO" is no guarantee that that car doesnt have a long history of all sorts of issues, including repeated service visits and finally a buy-back. People fall for the lie that the "certified" program is some kind of guarantee they are buying a car without issues- its not. The car can have accidents, repaint, long history of issues, non-factory repairs, etc f
All the CPO guarentees is that THAT dealer didn't find an issue- or didn't document it on the CPO form (you did get the CPO document, yes?) I assume you bought it sight unseen with no inspection? You should assume the saleswoman is an idiot or liar....after all, she is a salesperson. Their job is to get you to buy, then get to the next client. She may actually have been told that the battery was iffy, and they decided to send it to you anyway- (hence her prescient comment) but those kinds of errors with reduced power is usually something more significant.....(And you will probably find out that the battery is not warrantied for a 2008 battery...) Once you get a diagnosis from the dealer, post it up and we can comment. Good Luck A |

If it's only been two days I'd bring it back to the dealer TODAY. I'd try to demand a 7 day 'trial' for lack of a better word. If they refuse - hand them back the keys and find another CPO x5 with no issues. It may be nothing - or it may be a a multi-year headache. why risk it?

Selling dealer sounds like California. "Bring it back" is probably not an option |

Ard - that seems correct. Some states have a 3-day 'cooling off period' where they require dealers to accept a return, but it appears NJ (nor CA amazingly) does not...

to make a long story short (see attached for full version) a wire had come apart from its crimp and shrink wrap repair. ???? i scanned and attached what the ful explanation was and its def not my language. I asppreciate all the feedback i got from everyone on the board.
I too, was a member of the m5 board and its great to communicate with others with the same cars again, my first post and all of you were very helpful - i hope i uploaded correctly! bob |

Strange, I wonder if the original SIB repair wasn't done correctly and for some reason the wire loosened while being hauled around.
Sure looks like they found it. |

Sounds like their was a warranty repair in the past to fix a known issue and that one of the wires that they repaired in the past had come apart and had to be fixed. Doesn't sound like anything to be concerned with and hopefully is good to go now.
