You can adjust how aggressive the entire system is by pressing the Auto button (between soft, medium and ______ (I can't remember the highest setting)). Because of the location of the vents and HVAC system, the central vents have the greatest flow because they have the least restriction. If you use the manual dampers, you can reduce flow from them, which increases flow to the other vents.

Ha, I was just messin' with you. You know you'll never live it down - giving up the X for the GL.
Regardless, my 07 blows nicely out of all the vents. I actually hadn't tested it until today and had that puppy on 65. I guess it's just you poor [ex]diesel owners that have to suffer... :-P |

This airflow thing in X5 is so stupid.

![]() Suffering Diesel owners...ha ha ha. Actually my '11 35d had the best climate control out of my 3 E70s. My '07 3.0si was the worst, and the '08 4.8i was only marginally better. Compared to the GL, the 35d sucks...but compared to the other E70s...the 35d was not that bad!! |

Friends -
I really your help here. This AC airflow from the side vents is negligible; my SA tells me that the BMW AC vent is towards the center so the flow from the side vents would be less. I dug these 2 threads out with the same issue but they are from 2007/2009. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-solution.html http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...airflow-5.html Can anyone with a 2011 X5 35d confirm/check to see if the side vent flow is good enough or not. Am I missing a setting? |

Late to this thread, but isn't there the manual air distribution button that's right below the heated seats button? I know when I've pushed this it comes up on the iDrive menu and you can adjust the temp, not sure if it is for air flow - can't quite remember, but I adjusted mine to get more cold from the dash vents which has helped quite a bit.
I miss the manual options that the E53 had - just seemed a lot less complicated. But that car didn't have any better an AC system than this. My SA let me know that in the E53 it only held 16oz of refrigerant and it didn't take much of a leak to affect the whole thing. I wonder if BMW did the same with the E70...

I have 2010 X5 35d, I can confirm that the the side vent flow is very very less compare to the middle ones. I had been to the dealer once intially at the begining but the answer was "It is supposed to be working the same way as in the other BMW model - Not an issue"
