Thanks Mike, Really? re: the off-road capabilities. I dont know how impressed I would be considering this is one of my old vehicles.

Haha, I still think I am going to love it!

I got my delivery date today! 8Sep. I tried to get my SR to add the running boards and the space saver spare, but they had already started production on it and were unable to modify the build (i dont think he tried very hard).

In other news, BMWUSA changed the price of the spare from 100 to 150, but the running boards went from ~900(IIRC) to 300.

No luck on the cost of the hitch though

I'm not suggesting that the X5 is the best off road vehicle around, but given BMW's own lack of emphasis on off roading, I was truly surprised at what it could do.

My SR talked me out of running boards on my current X5; they aren't very wide/deep, and so they don't offer a lot of assistance in getting in or out of the vehicle -- but they do protrude enough to get your pants leg wet and/or dirty in bad weather conditions. I passed last time, and will again with the new one. They do look nice though . . .

Oh I know, I was just being silly. I don't plan on trying to climb tractor tires or even do any trail riding in my Bimmer. I am excited to see what the Xs are capable of and especially on a vehicle that isn't mine.

I was looking at the RBs just for aesthetics; I am 6'2'' so its not like i need a step. I read about the dirt on the pantleg in your thread. I'm sure it's all for the best.

I did the Performance Center Delivery program this past week. It was AMAZING!

We got to do the skid pad in a 335d, the track in an X5 35d, the off road course, tour of the assembly plant, see the museum etc.

We also tore around the track in their M5s. It really made me miss my e39, but I am still quite pleased by the X5.

On the drive back from SC, i averaged 25.7 MPG. I still have ~500 miles left for the break in period, but i'm in no rush. So far I love this vehicle.
