Just ordered a 2012 X5 35d
Basically just an updating of what I have now, with the addition of the Nappa Leather instead of the Nevada leather. (Vermillion Red/Sand Beige Nappa, Premium Package, Technology Package, Premium Sound and Cold Weather Package, Multi-contour seats and BMW Apps). Mine will be the first of the October production allocations for the dealer, so I should see it before the end of October. Yay!

Grats. My co-worker just got a 2011 35D. I wonder why BMW still hasn't addressed how loud the engine is compared to regular gas, but it's an impressive ride.

yes - $3500 (it was $4500 when I bought my 2010). I'm wavering about adding the adaptive suspension. My 2010 doesn't have it. Has anyone driven both, and care to comment? Thanks.

I don't agree with your comment about the loud engine. You have to look at it comparatively against other diesels instead of to gas engines. I think BMW has done a great job tuning it so it doesn't have that loud diesel knock. For me it's a good balance to get that extra torque from a great sounding car.

I have a new 35D, and I really don't think the engine is that loud. It is louder than a gas version, but not by much. Every passenger I have had since I got it has not realized it is diesel powered. These new common rail diesels are very quiet, especially when compared to a Ford Powerstroke or Dodge Cummins.

It's a diesel, it's going to be louder, but it's not loud for a diesel. I think the diesel growl is cool :-)

Great choice! I always get compliments on the sand beige Nappa.

Compared to my diesel GMC pickup and the diesel Mercedes my parents drove in the 70s and 80s, the X5 35d is very smooth and quiet. Compared to my wife's Lexus RX350, you can definitely hear the X5 more, but then again you can also "feel" much more in the X5 than in the numb and lifeless Lexus. My wife likes overboosted steering, floaty rides, and total isolation, while I like to be reminded that the car is alive!
